Salmon Jerky
What is the best way to move salmon all over the world? Besides letting them swim there themselves? Electric cars and trucks would be neat. Sail boats would be fun. But they would still need generators or big batteries and solar panels to run the freezers.
Do they need to be frozen? That is the modern way, and the only way for people to eat fresh tasting salmon year-round.
Salmon used to be canned. Then it could be brought from Alaska to California on sailing ships that took a month or more. I heard that kids these days don’t own can-openers, let alone know how to use them. What was before cans?
Barrels and salt. Before that? Sun-dried with a hint of smoke to keep the flies off. How was it kept? In a leather pouch, I guess, maybe hung from a rafter. What would the food and drug administration have to say about that? Would anyone buy it? What if it were sealed in compostable vacuum bags? It would certainly save me a lot of time worrying about freezers.
