Super weekend
Bonk called me on his way up from Lynnwood, said something like "Hey man me and Nikita are heading up to a cabin by Baker. It's one of his friends' birthdays". So he showed up with a teener of vitamin R and we started playing landmines. Good research day.
We geared up in his Tahoee, ready for a car bivy and skinning. And breakfast. But we had a couple errands to run first. One broken up phone call with Nikita told us we should bring drywall repair ingredients. I needed to swap a buckle on my ski boots. Mariah called in a Boomuary order to eat on the road.
We went to ReSources and got at mudslinger, trough, and paint to patch up "the cabin". Cost $4.75. They didn't have mud or "dinner plate"-sized metalesh. So we would stop at Lowe's for that on the way to Baker. I got dropped off by backcountry essentials with my ski boots and they headed to boomers when they saw me get inside. The bro behind the counter brought the buckle box out, I found a buckle to match the other one I already had to replace. I also paid slightly under five dollars for that. He would have told me the weather report if he still had it up on the checkout computer. I heard someone say there was "twenty foot in front of your face" visibility who had been up that day. Then I went outside and called Ri who had just ordered at Boomer's. So I went back in and asked if I could borrow a drill to take out the rivets on my busted buckle. I got introduced to their shop and drilled the rivets out with a nice long bit with minimal hole meltage. Got an impatient call from Ri outside and hopped in the TaTa with my newly buckled boots. To the aroma of Boomers.
Had a shroomswiss, a couple waffle fries dipped in some strawberry malt then we were at Lowe's. Parked near the exit. Bonk reverse engineered the doors so we walked in past the check out counters the wrong way. Noproblemo. We found the right mud and patches, then Bonk bought them while Ri and I went across the parking lot to Walgreen's to get some "plenty of good cheap beer". Teeners of vitamin R for fourteen bucks. Cashier only ran one and caught it, I said "Oh, it's not buy one get one free day?" I said. She said, "No that was yesterday". Got a call from Bonk and then we hopped in with him out front. He pulled up the directions on his phone. Had to go to Maple view.
There was more snow than I have ever seen there in the past three winters. Got to the cabin. Caught up with Nikita. Met some characters. Scratched ourselves over a broken sled, played thrirty-one and rage cage. It was puking.
Woke up to no electricity. Mopped the place up. Tried to drive to Baker to do some blueberry laps but the road was closed just past Glacier. So we thought about doing a tour on the way back with Nikita but his 'burban was having electrical issues so we Suessed that out for a while at Maple fuels. Pushed some folks out, ate some microwaved Jimmy Dean's.
Decided to call it and came back home when the 'burban fired up for good. Double fisted coffee and beer with Bonk for a couple hours before he decided to head back home. Talked about his new phone tower engineering gig. Talked about not watching the game. Good people.
